Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels are a revolutionary technology that converts sunlight into electricity.

Sunlight shines directly onto the solar panels; each solar panel are composed of many solar cells made from silicon, which is a semi-conductor material. The sunlight affects the cells and causes the electrons within to excite, creating a flow of electricity.

The electricity created in the solar panel is sent to an inverter box, to convert the DC into AC, so that you can use the generated electricity across multiple appliances, devices and technology around your building.

The AC is fed through to a meter to measure how much solar energy has been generated and is then connected to your buildings' consumer unit.

If your building has battery storage, your generated solar energy can be stored here to use later, to further reduce your costs and carbon footprint.

Any unused electricity is exported to the national grid, for other people to use. Under the UK's Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) you will be paid for each unit of electricity that you feed to the national grid.
